MetalKult is proud to present an exclusive preview of Brazilian death metal act Krisiun’s latest full-length, Southern Storm, which will be released by Century Media on August 5.
For more than 15 years, the three-piece—Alex Camargo (vocals/bass), Moyses Kolesne (guitar) and Max Kolesne (drums)—has been creating pure, unrelenting extreme metal. With their seventh studio album, Southern Storm, Krisiun prove once again that they are as dark and violent as ever.
For Southern Storm, Krisiun tapped producer Andy Classen, who has previously worked with the band on 1999’s Conquerors Of Armageddon and 2006’s AssassiNation. Recording commenced at Stage One Studio in Germany and the result was nothing less than organic, brutal metal, as evidenced by opener, “Slaying Steel,” “Combustion Infernal” or the band’s cover of Sepultura’s “Refuse/Resist.”
You’ll have to wait a week to snag your own copy, but in the meantime, enjoy the following streaming preview! (more…)

Pre-order tickets are now on sale for select dates on seminal grind band Carcass’ much-anticipated reunion tour. Everyone who pre-orders their tickets from the link below will receive a limited edition Carcass poster. More U.S. shows will be announced shortly
Here’s what vocalist/bassist Jeff Walker had to say about the first of many more U.S. performances:
“Well we waited and waited (just to make you sweat), but it doesn’t look like Bush and Blair’s phony war has any end in sight. The dollar ain’t gonna get any stronger, gas ain’t gonna get any cheaper, so it’s now or never! I guess you ex-colonists need cheering up and the only thing we can think of is some old school grind and death metal [laughs]!
“Joking aside, we KNOW damn well we HAVE to play the U.S. if only to either shut you all up or completely disappoint you and shatter your illusions about this band! Either way it’s gonna be a ‘blast’ as you say out there. We’re looking to recreate the road trip of the Summer of ‘90 with DEATH which was one of the best times of our lives (Christ I sound old)! To quote Herchell Gordon Lewis as on Necroticism ‘PREPARE TO DIE’!”
In February of 1999, CARCASS drummer Ken Owen suffered a near-fatal brain hemorrhage, leaving him in a coma for over 10 months. As a result, he is not taking part in CARCASS’ current reunion run (ARCH ENEMY skinsman Daniel Erlandsson is filling in), but will reportedly be traveling with the band whenever possible and making brief appearances at select shows.
CARCASS’ reunion lineup:
Bill Steer (FIREBIRD) - Vocals, Guitar
Jeff Walker (BRUJERIA) - Vocals, Bass
Michael Amott (ARCH ENEMY) - Guitar
Daniel Erlandsson (ARCH ENEMY) - Drums

After witnessing the six-string destruction laid down by Soilent Green guitarist Brian Patton when his Louisiana death grind crew played BB Kings back in April, we knew we had to catch up with the guitarist to get to the bottom of his unique technique.
Our chance came on June 25, 2008, when Soilent Green came back to New York City to play the Nokia Theatre (with Dethklok and Chimaira) in support of their latest album, Inevitable Collapse In the Presence of Conviction (Metal Blade).
In part one of our two-part lesson below, the EYEHATEGOD/Soilent Green guitarist weighs in on his role in creating the NOLA metal sound, the roots of Soilent’s riffs, his use of chord sliding and how to build a song out of many different, non-repeating sections. (more…)

Here’s the second half of our two-part riff lesson with Soilent Green’s Brian Patton.
In the following clips, watch as the EYEHATEGOD/Soilent Green guitarist demonstrates how to play some riffs from a variety of Soilent tracks, such as “Antioxidant,” “13 Days a Weak,” “In the Same Breath” and “Sewn Mouth Secrets.” (more…)

Norway’s 1349 will return to the US to participate on the highly anticipated Carcass tour this fall. Beginning September 5 the tour, also featuring Necrophagist, Suffocation, Aborted and Rotten Sound, marks the band’s third visit to America in support of their third and most successful album, Hellfire. Seven performances as of press time are confirmed with more to be announced in the coming weeks.
Released October 2005, Hellfire has become a milestone recording for the now decade-old band. Far surpassing sales of their earlier recordings (2003’s Liberation and 2004’s Beyond the Apocalypse), the album was highlighted by the making of their first video (for the album track “Sculptor of Flesh”).
Featuring outspoken vocalist Ravn, guitarist Archaron with bassist Seidemann and studio drummer Frost (Satyricon) the band would tour Europe with friends Aeturnus and Red Harvest before settling down to record their second album. A busy touring schedule would follow the release of Beyond the Apocalypse, this time adding prestigious festivals to their accomplishments (to date the band have performed at Wacken Open Air, Graspop, Summer Breeze, Hole in the Sky, Inferno, Hellfest, With Full Force, and the annual/traveling No Mercy Festival).
Following the release of Hellfire, the band was invited by Celtic Frost to support them on their Fall 2006 US tour. The band wasted no time pulling together a blistering set that would impress the band’s growing American fanbase. In early 2007 the band returned to headline the US for the first time, alongside Goatwhore, Nachtmystium and labelmates Averse Sefira. Nearly twenty shows would see the band visiting cities across the country. Earlier this year the band performed at the annual South-By-Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas as part of the Norwegian arts showcase. 1349 return to the US as writing continues on their fourth, and still untitled, album.
Confirmed performances include: (more…)

An update from Savannah, Ga.’s KYLESA: “It’s been a while since our last update so here you go: We’ve been writing a new record over the past few months and we’re about to head to the Jam Room studio on Monday [July 21] to begin tracking. We’re excited to record a new album since it’s been two years since we recorded Time Will Fuse its Worth. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long! The CD will be released on Prosthetic Records in early ‘09 and the vinyl version will come out around the same time. Phillip [Cope, Kylesa guitarist/vocalist (Baroness, Black Tusk)] will be producing the record. We’ll send a few updates and photos from the studio.”
In other KYLESA record news, Red Cobalt Industries is producing a very limited alternate CD version of Time Will Fuse its Worth for a Japanese release. The packaging was totally re-designed by Laura and is loaded with extra things including a poster of the “Double Skull” tee shirt design by John Baizley (Baroness, Darkest Hour, Torche, Skeletonwitch) and a sticker by Santos. It will be a sort of matchbook digipack with foil stamping and metallic inks. It should be in production very soon, and more details will be available soon. Once released, KYLESA plans on touring Japan for the first time, playing shows with Birushanah, Coffins, and several other bands. More details will be available as they are confirmed.
KYLESA recently completing a string of dates co-headlining the East Coast with The Ocean, also featuring Lair of The Minotaur and labelmates Withered. The band also contributes a version of Pink Floyd’s “Interstellar Overdrive” which will appear on a forthcoming Syd Barrett tribute album that will soon see release through Dwell Records.
