Our sister site GuitarWorld.com has just posted a list of the 15 Most Essential Death Metal records.

Among their list are VENOM Welcome to Hell, CELTIC FROST Morbid Tales, ENTOMBED Wolverine Blues and AT THE GATES Slaughter of the Soul. Click here to read the entire list.

    They could have updated the text a little. Although it was “just posted,” it looks like the list is from 1996.

    I think a 13-year-old list would be missing some essential albums. I would put something from Hate Eternal on there, personally. Anyone else have a pick from the last decade?

    Agreed.

    And if they’re going to extend the list to include Melodic Death Metal, yet feature nothing from In Flames, Dark Tranquillity or Arch Enemy, they have failed.

    These lists are always completely flawed as they fail to take into account that music is subjective so such a degree that the article should instead be called “MY SELECTION of the top 15 most essential Death Metal albums”.

    how about nile – annihilation of the wicked. decapitated – winds of creation. cannibal corpse – the bleeding, possibly behemoths demigod too

    It is Guitar World, you have to remember. It is only recently that they have even acknowledged death metal as music. The past few years have been a lot better, but they still know little about the music in general. Although, there were transcriptions for Nile and Behemoth songs this year.
