In the following riff lesson, Nergal sheds light on the core elements of Behemoth’s signature blackened death metal sound, and shows you how to play classic riffs from “Summoning of the Ancient Ones,” “Conquer All,” “Demigod” and more.

Check out the video below:

And after you’re finished, have a look at this insightful Q&A with Nergal.

Know these guys by name, but own no album of them.
But I will “buy” one, although I prefer death-metal and Thrash.
but there some great black-metal bands out there.

But one thing i have to say:They are all lyers about their attitude towrds satan and the rest. Most of them seem to be normal guys, with a fuck up attitude.

Behemoth are not a straight black metal band. Blackened death is far more appropriate. One of the best bands out there today, for sure.

I miss their Black metal from albums like; Stroming Through The Baltic, From The Pagan Vastlands, And The Forests Dream Eternally as well as Grom, That’s the real shit. Pure metal thats not hiding behing blast beats.

First Off Behemoth used to be Black metal on the past three or four albums they have changed to death metal!! Get ur genere right. In any event there in a league of there own… You can put them up there with Morbid Angel and Nile!!!!!

He’s a really cool guy, he feels very comfortable with himself and he is always relaxed. Behemoth’s music is great. To me they are like the Dimmu Borgir of Death metal, which contrary to what most people would say, is a great thing, cool catchy riffs, and brutal drumming.

“it’s all about the groove man!” yeah! I remember the days when death metal and black metal weren’t nice things to listen to it and especailly when they didn’t have a groove. The spirit of black metal is greatly misunderstood, as well as death metal, thanks to bands like CoF, Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, Job for a Cowboy, etc.

keep blaack metal and death metal out of the mainstream!

oh yeah, the main riff for Conquer All was stolen from an Anthax song, go fucking figure!
