Classic Thrash Riff Lesson with EXODUS

Exodus

Atrocity Album

When west coast thrash vets Exodus came to New York to play a show on February 7, 2008, at BB Kings in support of their latest album, The Atrocity Exhibition…Exhibit A, MetalKult had the opportunity to catch up with guitarists Gary Holt and Lee Altus.

After the two sat for a revealing video interview with our bros at Guitar World, we had the two guitarists demonstrate how to play a few riffs from their greatest hits, including “Toxic Waltz” and “Bonded By Blood,” as well as from new tracks like “Funeral Hymn.”

Oh-my-God!!!! If there was ever a band under the radar, it has to be Exodus. Gary Holt has been at least to me, one of the most under rated guitarists out there. Thanks sooooo much for posting this video lesson. Two questions though, what is their tuning, and any chance of matching tabs? Amazing to watch Gary himself explaining his riffs. Great job.

To Andrew: Their tuning has to be D and you can find some tabs, don’t worry. Exodus rules, Gary Holt is so underrated, just like Lee, but those two are one of the best guitarist ever born.

been with these guys since the early demo days. Remember Ruthies Inn? and the Stone those were the days. Gary and Rick were tow of the most underated guitar guys in the bay area scene back then. Sacriliege BC, death angel, possessed, heathen, metal church, vio-lence classic stuff

If you dig Holt, then check out Lee Altus’ chops in his previous band, Heathen. Excellent thrash and guitar mastery from this lesser known Bay Area band. I would pay $$$ to see Altus play some off those riffs!!!
